Calamity
Inspiration is always in cycles – we get excited, we get defeated, then we rediscover what it’s like to feel alive and get excited all over again. This changing, shifting and life-altering phase of a life is the most intriguing and passionate part that I think we’ll ever realize. Transfer that to artistic expression, and think about what art gives you a rise. To look at a piece of artwork once and see something completely different the next day and have it be somehow relevant to you is priceless, and that’s my goal. I try do accomplish this through never setting too much in stone, and never being afraid of showing both the beautiful and grotesque.
I’m still very much a kid, and I hope to never lose that. I still feel naive in ways and, oddly enough, I embrace that. The fact that I’m still moving around and exploring different cultures, social stratas and indigenous methods of expression makes me all the more deft in transferring that in a particular medium to others. I’ve been on a very long cultural anthropological journey to relate, dig in and pull something completely organic from the environment. I take pride in that, and I hope that whatever I make is most certainly for the benefit of someone else; and I reap more joy the more someone gains something personally from it.
