Deejay
I can blame getting caught up in San Francisco’s party scene as the reason I started dj’ing. Eight years later, and all I have are these mixes. and a ton of vinyl! A DJ is only as good as his or her crew, and I got super lucky with the phenomenal crews I have worked with: AM Breaks, the dRow, Moksha Tribe, Ambient Mafia and Word of Mouth. From the mountains to the desert, to the beach to the forest, I’ve been able to give every span of nature a soundtrack and every person willing to listen, hopefully, a moment.
I never program my sets. When I spin, I pull what I think will be a good fit on the fly. Every set I’ve created, whether at home or at an event, is done this way so everything is live and in the moment. Some really cool things can happen when you leave the window open.
Pounding up the stairs is the first mix I ever put out. I had bought a bunch of new vinyl and spun them for the first time in this mix. This was the first and pretty much the last set I spun where everything worked out, from timing to melody to energy to cross-genre play. It’s still my favorite now even eight years later.
Raiva was a mix I made when I was really kerfluffled – mostly kitsch house, some breaks. Angry fun stuff!
I went to the ‘other side’ with Arcana by embarking out with the chill barge. This was the start of a new career with a completely different genre that had a new set of rules, and it’s still as exciting to spin now as it was when I made this. This has layered, abstract beats (or in some cases, no beats), morphed standards, etc.
I had a music muse for a brief period of time. His name was Owen and this was the product:
My set with the Word of Mouth crew at Mclaren Park in San Francisco was one of my better live chill sets – it was a beautiful sunny day and my first time spinning with WOM. If you listen near the end, I threw some scratches in
This mix was out of an amazing Moksha Tribe event called Catch 20-2 on March 20th, 2005. SNDJ was sitting behind me, and all the love in the world was in that room (awww…PLUR!).

belle in the sea – the second intentional chill concoction out of my bedroom, minidisc and all.
the height of my chill career pretty much ended for the time at Chillits in 2007 at Camp ‘n Sons where I was honored with an invitation to play. There was a minor miscommunication between myself and the next DJ and unfortunately my epic finale track got cut off right at the apex by a blues guitar track. Kinda tragic.. but I was happy overall that this was the product of my last major venture before I whisked myself off to my “Floridian Paradise”.
here’s some pre-chillits legwarmers and ear muffs for ya:
